Students of Higher Educational Counseling (SHiEC) was founded in 2013 as a graduate student organization for students in the Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Counseling (EC) program at the University of Southern California (USC).
SHiEC works to promote the academic and professional development of graduate students in educational counseling while fostering a strong sense of community within the program. The organization creates opportunities for students to connect and engage through social, professional, and networking events, both virtually and in person, bringing together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and prospective students.
Mission
The Students of Higher Educational Counseling (SHiEC) organization works to promote the academic, professional, and personal development of graduate students in the field of higher education counseling through workshops, conferences, events, and opportunities for meaningful engagement.
SHiEC aims to engage members with the broader higher education community and current events through accessible virtual and in-person programming, networking, mentorship, and collaboration, both within the USC campus and across other higher education institutions.
As an organization, SHiEC fosters an inclusive and supportive community that unites current students and alumni as a lasting support system and professional network throughout their time at USC and beyond. Through opportunities for connection, leadership, and professional development, SHiEC empowers its members to become thoughtful, engaged, and impactful professionals in higher education.
